CGTN French first lady Brigitte Macron reunites with her ‘old friend’ giant panda in Chengdu, China

French first lady Brigitte Macron made a special visit to Chengdu city in southwest China, on Friday to reunite with her “old friend,” an eight-year-old male giant panda named Yuan Meng (meaning “accomplishment of a dream”), who was born in France but later returned to China.
This heart-warming reunion came as French President Emmanuel Macron’s three-day state visit to China concluded. Brigitte Macron visited the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding to reconnect with Yuan Meng, the panda she helped name when it was born at France’s ZooParc de Beauval.
During the visit, Brigitte learned that Yuan Meng had adapted well to life in China and was being well cared for by the breeders. She expressed hope that pandas might one day return to France.
