CNA Hong Kong fire: Residents say loved ones still in flat, await news as many remain unaccounted for
“My wife is still in the flat,” said a resident of the housing estate caught in Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in decades.
The blaze broke out at Wang Fuk Court housing estate in Tai Po on Wednesday night (Nov 26). The death toll from the fire rose to 44 on Nov 27, with nearly 300 people still missing.
Hong Kong police believe the deadly fire may have been spread by unsafe scaffolding and foam materials used during maintenance work. Three men from the construction company, aged between 52 and 68, have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter over the fire.
