Twenty major retailers and the Department of Homeland Security are teaming up to crack down on gift card draining — a massive enterprise in which thieves steal cards, tamper with the barcodes and pins, and then return them to store shelves. NBC’s Vicky Nguyen reports for TODAY on the new security features you can expect to see if you plan to purchase a gift card this year.
