CNA China sends substitute spaceship Shenzhou-22 in its first emergency space mission
China’s first emergency space launch went ahead without incident on Tuesday (Nov 25). The unmanned Shenzhou-22 — carrying 600kg of food and repair materials — docked at Tiangong space station successfully, restoring a flightworthy return vessel for the three astronauts stranded aboard.
The ship is replacing the Shenzhou-21 spacecraft. It had returned with astronauts who went to space station on board the Shenzhou-20, which was deemed unfit to fly after suspected debris damage was discovered on Nov 5.
With Shenzhou-21 sent back to Earth before schedule, Tiangong’s crew had been left without an escape vehicle until Shenzhou-22’s arrival. #china #chinanews
