Breaking the ice: Canada building world's biggest ice ships with US, Finland

Canada, the U.S. and Finland moved forward on an agreement to build heavy Arctic icebreakers in a trilateral agreement called the ICE pact.

“We face an increasingly dangerous world and it is important in these times to build on the relationships with our key allies,” Canadian Ambassador to the U.S. Kristen Hillman said.

Drawn up at the time of former president Joe Biden, the ICE pact is meant to increase collaboration on polar icebreakers.

The Commander of Canada’s Coast Guard Mario Pelletier tells the West Block how his current fleet is being updated in the meantime.
