In the wide, empty stretches of northeast Syria’s wilderness, hunters in pickup trucks scan the skies for migratory falcons that pass briefly overhead each autumn. The hunters say the cultural tradition targets saker and peregrine falcons, prized birds that travel through Syria along a major migratory route.
