Global NewsSevere flooding hits northern Italy; rescue operations underway

Authorities were searching for two missing people after three homes collapsed on Nov. 17th in Brazzano di Cormons, Italy. Search and rescue efforts were underway for a boy and an elderly woman, while a third person was pulled out alive by rescue crews.

Severe storms hit the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia Sunday night into Monday morning, bringing widespread flooding and multiple landslides. Authorities made dozens of rescues as rivers overflowed and roads were cut off. Some residents were forced to seek safety on rooftops to await evacuation by boat or helicopter.

This marks the third major flood this year for the country as increasing year-round precipitation becomes more frequent due to climate change.
