LIVE | Blasts & Arson: Bangladesh Braces For Sheikh Hasina’s Sentencing | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Bangladesh witnessed a day of complete lockdown following instances of violence after the Dhaka tribunal announced that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s verdict would be released on November 17. Members of the Sheikh Hasina-led political party Awami League have been blamed for inciting hatred and causing violent activities such as burning the office of the BNP led by Hasina’s opponent, Khaleda Zia. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, addressed the nation, announcing a referendum in February. The same day, Hasina gave written interviews to Indian media where she hinted at the role of foreign forces in inciting deadly protests in Dhaka, following which she was forced to flee the nation. Although Hasina has expressed hopes of returning to Dhaka one day, there are slim chances of her return as her country doesn’t seem to be happy with her. The evidence lies in its latest move when it summoned the Indian ambassador to Dhaka over allowing Hasina to give interviews to media outlets. Palki Sharma tells you more.
