Chile’s far-right presidential candidate Jose Antonio Kast closed his campaign in Santiago on Tuesday (November 11), declaring that “third time is the charm” in his bid for the country’s presidency. Kast, who has run for president twice before, said Chile would begin to change after Sunday’s (November 16) vote and that he would win the December 14 runoff, promising to “reclaim and rebuild” the country. Kast, who is second in most polls ahead of the first round, has moderated his rhetoric compared to previous campaigns, avoiding controversial topics such as his past support for Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship, and instead emphasising law and order.
