U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington is close to finalising a new deal with India aimed at strengthening economic and security cooperation, expanding U.S. energy exports, and encouraging greater investment in key American sectors.

Speaking at the Oval Office during the swearing-in of Sergio Gor as the new U.S. Ambassador to India, Trump said, “We’re getting a fair deal, just a fair trade deal. We’re making a deal with India, much different deal than we had in the past.”

Expressing optimism about the progress, he added, “We’re getting close. We’re making a deal with India, much different deal than we had in the past. So right now, they don’t love me, but they’ll love us again.”
