Al Jazeera English US Senate vote: Republican-led deal offers hope for end to shutdown

The US Senate has taken the first step towards ending America’s longest government shutdown; in a procedural vote, seven Democrats and an independent broke ranks to advance a stop-gap funding package. The shutdown—now in its 41st day—has sidelined federal workers and affected food aid and air travel.
