The TV license fee, which is used to perform various public duties, will be collected again along with electricity bills starting this month.

KBS has designated next Monday as ‘Viewer Appreciation Week’ and is reflecting on its commitment to use the valuable license fees with gratitude.

As part of its public duties, the public broadcaster KBS has actively contributed to the spread of the Korean Wave through programs like Music Bank and the K-Pop World Festival.

Today (Nov. 7), we will look at the achievements of K-culture at the National Museum of Korea, which has now emerged as a global center of the Korean Wave, and envision the future we will grow together.

We are heading to the National Museum of Korea.

So, Min Jeong-hee, I hear people are affectionately calling it ‘Gukjungbak’ these days.

Was there an early-morning rush today as well?

Yes, indeed.

The combination of a museum and an early-mornig rush, which was hard to imagine, can now be easily seen here.

As can be felt from the abbreviation ‘Gukjungbak’, the National Museum of Korea feels much closer to us now.

Thanks to the so-called “K-Pop Demon Hunters” effect, interest in not only K-pop but also our traditional culture has increased.

As a result, this place, Gukjungbak, has emerged as a hot spot attracting both domestic and international visitors.

This year, the expected number of visitors is 6 million, and the National Museum of Korea has jumped to the top five museums in the world.

At 9:30 AM, a long line stretches in front of the museum.

Even on a weekday morning, the area is bustling with visitors waiting for the opening.

It has now become a must-visit spot for foreign tourists as well.

[Ronald Van Hout/Netherlands Tourist: “We are visiting this museum to learn more about Korea. Just curious about the collections here and exhibitions here.”]

The most popular spot is the ‘Room of Contemplation’.

In a serene atmosphere, the gentle smile of the Seated Buddha captures the heart.

[Caroline Larose & Peter Burkey/American Tourists: “It’s very peaceful. (Yes, very meditative space.) I really appreciated how it slopes downwards when you’re at the very back of it.”]

The annual number of visitors to the National Museum of Korea has exceeded 5 million this year.

This is the highest record ever and a 70% increase compared to the same period last year.

Following the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Vatican, and the Metropolitan Museum, it ranks among the top five museums in the world.

The surge began with ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’, but events targeting the younger generation, such as ‘Makeup Contests’, and the so-called ‘MU:DS’ museum souvenirs have also contributed to the success.

[Kim Jae-hwan/Director of Cultural Exchange and Promotion at the National Museum of Korea: “I believe the increase in visitors is due to the desires of the younger generation to find the roots of Korean culture.”]

By the end of this year, the number of visitors to the National Museum of Korea is expected to exceed 6 million, setting another new record.
