Three people were killed in a US military strike on a vessel in the Caribbean, in what Washington described as part of an expanded campaign against drug cartels. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the attack, ordered by President Donald Trump, targeted a ship operated by a designated terrorist organisation. The operation was among 17 strikes since September that have destroyed 18 boats and killed about 70 people. US officials told Congress the country is now in an “armed conflict” with drug cartels, while critics warned the administration is bypassing oversight and expanding military action in Latin America.
