Governments worldwide are taking new steps to tackle misinformation. In England, schools will soon teach pupils how to identify fake news and disinformation as part of the country’s biggest curriculum reform in over a decade. Starting in 2028, children will learn how to verify stories, spot false images, and understand how artificial intelligence shapes online content. The updated citizenship lessons will also cover finance, democracy, and climate awareness. Similar education programmes already exist in Finland and Taiwan, where students are taught media literacy from an early age to recognise propaganda and verify sources in the digital world.
