Avalanche Strikes Nepal’s Yalung Ri: 3 Dead, 8 missing including foreign nationals
On November 4, Nepal confirmed that one foreign national was among 3 victims of an avalanche in Himalayan mountains hit a climbing expedition. Director of Mountaineering & Adventure Tourism at Tourism Department of Nepal, Himal Gautam said that search begins for 8 others who are still missing. Among those missing on Yalung Ri Himal mountain, in Dolakha district northeast of Kathmandu, were 5 foreign nationals, police official told Reuters. The nationalities of the dead or the missing foreigners were not immediately known. Four injured climbers were evacuated to a nearby village and a search for missing climbers, including by helicopter, was continuing, Mahato said. Yalung Ri is located in the Rolwaling Valley of northeastern Nepal and climbers there encounter a mix of rock, ice and snow.
