Government moves to become full member of CAF
Government is set to repeal existing legislation that governs its membership with the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), with the intention of becoming a full member.

Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ryan Straughn, says this will call for enhanced investment in the institution to ensure that all benefits are available to Barbados.

He made the disclosure as he led off debate on the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean Bill, 2025.

Minister Straughn says it’s important that the Government has access to funding to undertake development over the next few years.

He says Barbados currently has Series C shares, but will be looking to graduate to Series A, and the transition to a full member of CAF will allow the country access to roughly nine billion US dollars (BDS 18 billion) in loan and investment opportunities.
