South Korea Offers Condolences After Death Of Kim Yong Nam, Praises Late North Korean Leader
South Korea’s Unification Minister Chung Dong-young offered condolences following the death of Kim Yong Nam, North Korea’s former ceremonial head of state and veteran diplomat. According to KCNA, Kim died on Monday, November 3, aged 97. Serving as Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly from 1998 to 2019, Kim was a symbolic figure who represented Pyongyang in key diplomatic events under all three North Korean leaders. He notably led the North Korean delegation to the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, meeting then-President Moon Jae-in in a rare moment of inter-Korean engagement.
