Peru’s Interim Chief Jose Jeri Takes Stand Against Narco-Terrorism; ‘Fear Will Not Rule Our Streets’
Peru’s interim president Jose Jeri called for national unity and vowed to confront a growing wave of crime, organised criminal networks, and narco-terrorism threatening the country’s stability. Speaking as he assumed command of the Peruvian Armed Forces, Jeri said the state “cannot allow fear to rule our streets,” pledging to act “firmly but within the Constitution and human rights.” Peru has recorded 963 homicides in 2025, up nearly 20% from last year, alongside a surge in extortion cases. The president urged citizens and security forces to work together to restore safety and protect national tranquillity.
