80 years on: The Nuremberg Trials still shape global justice | Top Report
The Nuremberg Trials, which prosecuted 22 top Nazi leaders, are approaching their 80th anniversary. Held in the southern German city of Nuremberg from November 1945 to October 1946, they were followed by the Subsequent Nuremberg Trials, which convicted 177 more Nazis. Twelve of the first trial defendants were sentenced to death, three acquitted, and the rest imprisoned. Convictions were handed to Hermann Göring, Martin Bormann, and Hans Frank, among others.
Today, the trials are recognized as a precursor to modern international tribunals, such as the International Criminal Court, which continue to hold leaders accountable for crimes against humanity.
